Configuration of Outlook Express 6 (Win2000)
This document shows how to setup Outlook Express for accessing DocuWeb
mail servers. For the experts, the appropriate settings are:
| POP3 Server: |
mail.docuweb.ca |
| SMTP Server: |
mail.docuweb.ca |
| SMTP Authentication: |
yes, using email account name |
The setup described here, including SMTP Authentication, allows you to
access DocuWeb mail servers from anywhere, using any provider, as long
as you have an email account with DocuWeb. (See here for an explanation as to why this is necessary).
The screen shots below are from Microsoft Outlook Express 6 on Windows
2000 Professional. Other versions of Outlook Express will be similar,
but there may be differencess.
Start Outlook Express and select Tools / Accounts... from the menu bar:
Step 2
Select the Mail tab in the Internet Accounts dialog. If
there is an existing account for DocuWeb, select that account, press
Properties and go to Step 8.
Otherwise, press Add and select Mail to add a new mail
account using the Internet Connection Wizard:
Step 3
In the Internet Connection Wizard, enter your name as you wish it to
appear on the messages you send:

names:

Enter your DocuWeb Account name, as assigned by DocuWeb. Note that
this account name is usually not the same as the first part of
your email address. It is often a combination of your domain name
(possibly abbreviated) followed by a '.' followed by your e-mail name
(for example 'dw.fwilliam'). It is recommended that you do not
enter your password here, and leave the box 'Remember Password' unchecked:
and press Next>
Step 7
Press 'Finish>'
In the Mail tab of Internet Accounts, select the
mail.docuweb.caaccount and press Properties to bring up
the Properties dialogue box. Select the General tab and verify
the settings there (specifically, your Name and E-mail Address):
Step 9
Select the Servers tab of the account properties dialogue.
Ensure that the incoming mail server is POP3, that both Incoming and
Outgoing mail servers are set to 'mail.docuweb.ca', and
that your Account name is set correctly (see Step
6, above).
Then check 'My server requires authentication' under Outgoing
Mail Server and press Settings...:
Step 10
In the Outgoing Mail Server dialogue, ensure that Use
same settings as my incoming mail server is checked, and press
OK:
Press OK to complete all the dialogue boxes. This completes the configuration.
Example of Sending Mail
From now on, you will be prompted for a password whenever you attempt
to send an email message. Use the same password as you do for
incoming mail. Here is an example dialogue when mail is sent:
