Welcome to my home page. Segovia (Spain) is my birthplace.

Segovia is a small city (40,000 inhabitants). It is located 60 miles north from Madrid, passsing the Guadarrama mountains. It is a small center of goverment. Segovia is the capital of the province of Segovia.
Madrid is just 75 minutes away by car.
As many cities in Spain, it has long history. Some times there were times of splendor, and times of decadence. Some buildings have remained from the far away glorious days.
The early remainings date from the Romain Empire times. There is a Roman Acueduct, 2000 years old, from that period.
There are some buildings from the Middle Ages, some (around 10) romanesque churches (1200-1400 a.d.) and a gothic catedral (1500 a.d.). There is also a medieval castle, known as the Alcázar. Although, it was destroyed almost 200 years ago and rebuilt according to the taste of that time (romantic period).
Segovia is also well known for restaurants serving lamb and pig roasted in a wood oven.
Here a picture of the Acueduct

On the first Sunday in February, Zamarramala celebrates Santa Agueda, a celebration of ethnological interest. Segovia celebrates the Fairs and Celebrations of San Juan and San Pedro between June 24th and 29th. The Week of Chamber Music is held in the second fortnight of July. Almost all the villages celebrate in August or September. The celebrations in Cu llar on 29th August are famous because of the bull droves (ie, "los encierros"), and so are those of Santa Mar a de Nieva because of the unique candle ceremony on September 7th.
